I've heard that this type of coating (isn't like the old nickle-type plating?) holds up okay, UNLESS your car sees road salt. In which case they can be ruined quickly.
As far as I can tell from my little bit of research, it's hard to find a coating that will do all the things necessary (stand up to a lot of heat, look nice, survive road salt, and survive the constant beating from road debris) without spending lots of moolah.
