Help me put the collectors together for my headers?

The kit came with two reducers, two .25" collector spacers (maybe), and 4 collector gaskets. How do these go together to make a good seal. Does each header use 2 gaskets around that spacer thing? The instructions are useless. Also why is there a reducer when the header is 2.5" and the collector is 2.5"?

The funny thing is, I wanted to get really good collector gaskets to replace the crappy ones that come in the kit. I I ordered some from Summit and they sent me those stupid spacer things. That spacer can't be a gasket can it. It is not soft so it is not like it will squeeze down and create a seal.

Those "spacer" things are the gaskets. They're made out of dead soft aluminum and will conform to the collector once they get heated up. I have the same thing. Don't put the other gaskets on there though, or it will probably leak, they're junk.

Looks to me like the flange that holds the reducer up to the collector. It is steel, correct? (check it with a magnet if you aren't sure) If so, then you put it on the reducer, slip it up to the expanded part, put the gasket between the reducer and collector, bolt it together.

The reducer is intended to allow you to hook the header up to the rest of the exhaust system.

Of course, I don't have a clue what headers you've got, but that's what I've seen with every set I've had to date, up to but not including the emissions-legal ones w/y-pipe I put on the Camaro.

Looks like you also have a y-pipe, though, so you don't need the reducers. Keep 'em for possible future use, or toss 'em.

Is it possible these are Hedmans, with their y-pipe? They sell the hedders and y-pipe seperately, so even if they arrived together, the hedders will have the reducers that aren't required when the y-pipe is used.

No they are flowtechs with 2.5" collectors and 2.5" y-pipe. That is why I don't understand why they have reducers. I didn't use them and I far as I can tell i don't have any leaks yet.

If you used any of the supplied gaskets, you'll be in for a surprise in about a week. You gotta go with Mr.Gasket or Felpro gaskets.

Yea I am aware of that. See I got mixed up. I ordered what i thought were collector gaskets from summit and when they came here I realized that they were just those aluminum spacers. They even called them "collector gaskets" and no they are not dead soft. They are made from .125' aluminum. When I do get the copper or dead soft should I get 4 and still use the supplied spacers?

Those are collector gaskets. They aren't literally "dead soft", that's just what they call that type of aluminum since it is very soft. I have the same gaskets, except that they're from flowtech.
