i'm putting an engine into an 84 camaro. i got summit headers in the mail today but they are about 5-7 inches to long. is there a different brand header that will fit in with the stock y-pipe or a y pipe i can get(don't want to spend to much)? how much would a y pipe cost to buy or get fabricated?

 

Hooker and Hedman make shortie headers that fit in the car. Neither will fit to the stock y-pipe. Both make headers with y-pipe (or y-pipe available), as do Edelbrock, SLP, Dynomax, and Pacesetter. The least expensive are Pacesetter (JCWhitney), but from those who have them, quality isn't Job #1 for them. SLP make the best, but also most expensive. Hedman is the least expensive for those with a y-pipe, but only if you don't need the emissions fitting - those are more expensive.

People have said in other posts that they got a y-pipe fabricated for $125, but that the quality was very poor. Mandrel bending is the best way to go, and that is always more expensive. All of the companies above that make a y-pipe for their headers use mandrel bending. Your best bet would be to get headers with a y-pipe to go with them, even if more expensive.
