Smokin exhaust
Smokin exhaust
Ok I've got a problem. My car seems to be smokin pretty bad out the tailpipes. It still has the factory exhaust on it(from an 85). It smells like my camaro used to after I took off the cat. But I still have the cat, so why the smell????? And whats the deal w/ the smoke? Seems to have a blueish tint to it. Help me out guys. Is my cat dead or my muffler?

The blueish color is oil. And that smell you have is either the cat burning off the oil that has caked inside, or the guts of the cat are just bad.
What's it smell like? Like rotten eggs? If so, the cat is just bad. I don't remember what burnt oil smells like (I lost my sense of smell about 3 yrs. ago
), but I do remember that it's blue smoke.

Cool hopefully it is just the cat. It smells like really strong exhaust. Not rotten eggs but just like an open header car smells.

Mine did that for about 6 weeks, then the engine finally blew up. It's ok though, it was just a 305. Not really missed. Although I miss DRIVING MY CAR since I'm not Bill Gates and I can't just whip out my checkbook and have a new engine in it the next day. No but I had problems with my car besides smokin at startup in the morning.. Oil pump must have been going out, oil was being burned, oil pressure guage playin games on me, not enough oil in the engine even though (the wrong) dipstick read OVER full. Don't ask why I had the wrong dipstick, original owner was a moron. Second owner knew what he was doing (put corvette servo in tranny and changed ratios) but didn't have the car for long. Then I got it. So basically when it decided to take a dump on me I found out that one of the spark plugs snapped clean off where the porcelin meets the metal, and obviously a piston bearing went out, causing the piston tops to hit the heads. The spark plug that snapped is right where the piston with the most damage was located. Puzzles me, oh well.
