I had straight pipes at first.....i hated them to death, sounded like a john deere tractor or a truck.....and it had a REALLY horrible kackle at around 2500 rpms....i wouldnt recommend them as a person who has had them!

i ran wiht my headers open for a while. Had a nice loud rumble to it at idle and sounded mean during cruise untill my dissy. slipped. Still way too loud for the street but if the pipe comes right off the headers it will probably sound ok. Dont have it come off the gutted cat or anything. The hollow shell of the cat resonates and ruins the sound.

If you wnat to post a sample of the sound, just attach the wav as a zip file in a post.

Sounds like you've kinda gone the same route I did. You don't really need a muffler if the exhaust shop knows what they're doing and it won't sound like @ss either... It's called chambered exhaust. When I had my exhaust listed as "straight pipes" people on here would flame me for it saying that they "didn't want to hear another camero on the road that sounds like an exhaust leak from hell," but in a chambered exhaust the shop squeezes the pipes ever so slightly, in just the right places to tune the exhaust note. Thus no muffler needed. Don't let people tell you that it sounds like crap, esp. if you've had it done right and you're happy with it, then nothing else matters. EVERYBODY has Flows, but in my opinion they just don't make a SBC sound right. Sorry, just had to vent.

i guess our cars dont need much backpressure and free flowing is the way to go then?

i know it must improve power because people at the local track use cutout's on their exhaust
