ok, i'm not quite sure what you're saying.... you want full exhaust but right now it's just straight pipe with the cat, and you don't want to lose the sound it has now?

no offence, but to me straight pipes on a stock sbc sound like the worlds largest exaust leak. Go get a nice cat back. You wont **** everyone off and itll have a nice deep rumble to it.

flowmasters sound a little hollow on stock motors. I hear real good stuff about Hooker cat backs. Go PM mark shields. He has one and he'll be glad to tell you all about it.

I'd say go for the hooker. Kinda quiet at idle, but loud when you get on the gas. It's $200 at summit with a little fabrication or $260 for a bolt up.

I have the flowmaster American Thunder on my car, and it sounds beautiful. Nice and deep at idle, then roars when you get on it. I recommend it highly.

It will sound louder with the 3" i pipe that comes with the cat-back.

imo, do the exhaust from the headers to the back of the car all at once.

My 3" I-pipe bolted right up to the cat, but I do not think it is the original cat. Check under your car, as long as the cat is the bolt-up type with flanges it should bolt up fine, I know it did on mine. The larger I-pipe gives a slightly better sound and is maybe good for 1-2 hp, but not noticeable. The other advantage to the catback is mine came with dual 3in outlets, which look awesome.

Do the 80 series mufflers come with tips too? I believe its just the muffler.
