The Best Headers: *bs*

Ok, I want headers. No AIR. Yes O2. Jet-Hot coated. Good flowing and good fitting. Of course money is an issue, but I'm willing to pay plenty for a quality product.

Don't tell me to do a search because I just went through 15 pages of crap. I'm starting to think everyone is FU(K!NG nuts.

I don't think it is possible to get what I want. It seems like there are serious problems with every header available. No matter what brand, there are people that hate them. It's really starting to tick me off. Edelbrocks, Hedman, and Flowtech don't flow good, SLPs and Long tubes don't fit, etc etc etc. Haven't heard much about MAC yet. I don't think they know what advertising is.

Is there a solution???

I tossed the header decision for months. Probably read damn near every search on them. I finally decided to order the hedman's. I think it's the best deal...add the o2 bung and coat them . The y pipe seems small ,but maybe it's designed that way for a good purpose.

I'd get the Hooker headers if I had to do it over again.

If you dont want AIR and dont have emissions, get Hooker long tubes. Those type of headers are proven to be the best.

I thought the long tubes had a lot of install and clearance issues, like more than any other header available. Am I wrong?

Where is the cheapest place to find the Hookers? (Besides the street corners) Will long tubes fit in our cars? What is the benefit from going long tubes as compared to shorties?

Anyone got a link?

The cheapest would be either jegs or summit. They do fit on our cars, but minor modifications may be necessary. The benefit with long tubes is that they are (usually) equal length, and also that they exit out under the car instead of having to go through the y-pipe first as with shortys.

Ever wonder why Flowmaster doesn't make headers.? I just thought of that, of course they would probably sound like crap.

Not SLP's because they are expensive, no?

And about those long tubes ...

Can they be run with a single cat, or are they mainly for dual exhaust?

Guess you have to pick your poison. Pretty much every header is compromised in some way that makes some people hate them.
I took almost a year to decide to get SLPs and the only regret I have about them is that I didn't spend the money to get them coated. I really do think they are the best of the bunch. It seems really hit-or-miss of whether or not they are hard to install. I had no problems dropping them in. Others have had horror stories about them not fitting. I think every header out there has someone with a horror story of how they don't fit. I think you need to take those stories with a grain of salt. In some cases they really don't fit, but a lot of times it's someone that has trouble changing their spark plugs bitching about how their headers don't go on. Anyway, I say go with SLP:
No AIR: Yes
O2: Yes
Jet-Hot coated: Yes
Good flowing: If you need better flow go with LTs
good fitting: 80%-90% of the time. Probably the best % out there.

No you're not. They physically take up quite a bit more space then any of the shorty headers out there. They also tend to hang kind of low. However, they do make the best power out there. Several board members made large gains when switching from shorties to Hooker LTs. For the compromises you have to make for them though, I would only use them on a hot combination that didn't see too much street duty. I'd be afraid of dinging the crap out of them.

If SLP is too expensive for you, might as well stop looking at the Hooker SuperComp long tubes because they are about the same price. I believe they are $300-$350 before coating. With jet Hot coating that jumps it to $450-500, and then you have to have a custom y-pipe or dual exhaust made. They're great headers; they just require a bit more fabrication and they aren't cheap. I seriously considered getting them before decideing to go SLP, because I was able to get a real good deal on them makeing a huge $$ difference.

Well mcconahay, that's by far the most intelligent reply I've gotten. From your statement alone, I'd say if I had to choose now I'd definately go SLP. Thanks. If anyone else has something good to say I'd be glad to hear it. Thanks again.

If I could do it over (wait im about to) id definetly get something that comes with a y pipe. When you buy the SLP headers do you have to buy the 80$ installation kit? I considered the SLP headers but they cost alot + the installation kit.

I don't think so, don't you mean Hooker?! If Flowmaster did make them I bet they would be better.

No headers are expensive when you work in a parts store A guy who has worked at a performance parts store that we're associated with told me Hooker has worked out a lot of their clearance issues lately. Plus, while you guys are paying $350.00 for a good pair of headers (P/N 520-2055), due to retail markup, I'll be paying a little over half that.

There must be a cheaper place to get the Hooker long tube #2210's than Jegs or Summit. Somebody post a place that has a better price.

How about the Edelbrock TES's. How do they compare to the SLP's?
