How does the 350TPI sound w/out cats??

I have the Mufflex cat back installed now with Hooker shorties, but Im making my Ypipe out of 3in pipe, but want to make a way to bolt up my converters for e-check and then take them back off in favor of just a straight pipe. My question is though, is the engine that much louder w/out the cats? My buddy's "mudstain" doesnt have them, and it just roars more. My car rocks with open headers, but I dont think the local "badge boys" would appreciate it. hehe

It's way louder without the cat's in place. Your muffler will sound quite different. It will roar allright when you go WOT. You will probably get some popping sounds coming out the tailpipe when you coast down. Mine did all the above when I ran no cat's.

I sounds like crap gutted. Weld a 3 inch pipe in the middle of it. It looks like you still have a cat to the smog police and it sounds alot better. Any smog cop can tell by the foul oders out of your tailpipes that you don't have a working cat though.

I dont want to gut the cats, just make a place in the Ypipe to clamp them in place for the e-check and then replace them with the 3in pipe from the Y-pipe. So basically, it'll just be a 3in true Ypipe with a provision for taking out a section(s) of the Ypipe to temporarily bolt in the cat(s) for emissions checks and them taking them back off. Think that'll work. They dont even do visual checks here......Last time I passed w/o A.I.R. ?????
