out the tailpipe. Yes, you can actually hear a rattle coming out of the tailpipe. I've replaced the muffler, changed headers, changed Y-pipe and checked for loose objects in the exhaust itself. I'm thinking this is a normal exhaust note for this configuration. I have a 406 and the noise is present between 1750 and 2000 RPM. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It does it around 1750-2000RPM in neutral of moving. It's worse under light to mid throttle. I can idle the motor up to 1800 and stand behind it while its rattling. If I hold a rag over the exhaust outlet it muffles the rattle but doesn't stop it. It sounds like something in the muffler is loose, but I've replaced it once. Maybe Flowmaster is prone to these types of problems.

I've never heard of a sound coming out of a tailpipe that u can baffle with a rag, but I do know that sometimes u can get a sound like u described that comes from the pipe that goes from the catalytic converter to the muffler. It can be too close to the brake line mount and rub up against it when the exhaust shakes the pipes. Check under your car and see if thats it, and if it is, go to my post: Is there something I can do to make this stop these sounds??It sounds like u have the same thing I do.
