Header Install..Dipstick Tube?

Do I need to remove this? If so how?

Also any other tips are appreciated on installing this high miler, never been changed exhaust manifold LG4 Auto, air, ps car.

So far I've removed the right side plugs, sheilds, starter, and ready for manifold removal and dipstick tube if needed.

I think this is the easy side and I've already spent two hours. Nice Weekend!!

Thanks!!!

I had to pull the dipstick out on my L98 when I did the headers. You just wiggle it back and fourth out of the block, and when it comes loose, you just pull it the rest of the way out. It may be a little tough to get started, but it should come out, just be patient.

I didnt have to remove the dipstick on my 86, good thing too becasue i wiggled it forever, it wasnt coming out.

Make sure you have been applying penetrating oil to those manifold bolts just to prevent breaking one. All mine came out pretty easily, just a couple a bloody knuckles. I also didnt have to remove my starter.

A few words of advice, don't do this in a driveway with a maglight for one, speaking from experience. Also, remove the Y-pipe first. Yes, the dipstick tube does need to come out. Be very careful putting it back in. I messed mine up and had to get a new one. I lightly sanded the bottom of the new one and it went in much easier. The passenger side one goes in easier from the bottom but remove the coolant fan switch. On the other one remove the valve cover and it will go right in pretty easily. Good luck and take lots of breaks and don't hurry, you'll just get frustrated and break something, like I did
