Hooker Shorties
hi,
Just sold my Edelbrock TES headers, now im close to buying Hooker Shorties(no air tubes) The Edelbrocks went in pretty smooth, sow hows about the Hookers? Any problems with installation? How is the clearance between the headers and spark plugs?

hey,
I just recently installed Hooker Super Comp shorties in my camaro.
As for cleareance, when I installed the header on the drivers side I had move the brake lines to allow the header to get into position, but other than that it was pretty easy to get in. Also, I would recommend installing the spark plugs first, then the headers. On the passenger side, it was pretty simple because I don't have that a/c,heater box in the way. I have no problems with the spark plugs touching the headers.

Which Hooker shorties?
The Super Comps, p/n 2055, which come with a y-pipe, only come with the A.I.R. tubes. The Comps, p/n 2460, don't have the A.I.R. tubes (can be special ordered with them), but no y-pipe is available pre-fabricated for them.
They are completely different, so any questions must include which you're talking about.

It's the Hooker p/n 2055. Has the y-pipe and the a.i.r. tubes.

I planing on shaving off the a.i.r. tubes, because I am not running the a.i.r system. Didn't want to pay extra money for the company to remove them.

The listed price is the same, but what you get is not. The Hookers are ready to install, the SLP's require more parts to finish the job.
Has anyone actually had both the Super Comps and the regular Competition headers side by side to see any differences?
I know from previous experiences with Hooker headers, that the only differences in these two header lines are the fact the Super Comp's have a name tag on 'em. Makes sense, at least I think so, that you wouldn't redesign a header for the same chassis, when you already have one in production...
Maybe the Competition headers are just like the Super Comp's minus the AIR lines, and the Y-pipe?
I'd rather have the Comp's, since I always have my exhaust guy run a custom Y-pipe when I do headers. He does a true 3", runs it with PLENTY of clearance for everything, and mates it up to the cat so I Can bolt it on and off when I need to...and it only costs me $70-85 depending on the car....

The Super Comp shorties (p/n 2055) have a 3" collector, 5" long, with a ball flange to mate with the 2-1/2" down pipes of the y-pipe that is supplied.
The Comp shorties (p/n 2460) have a 3" collector, 4" long, with a more standard flat flange (http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLin...2460-1HKR.html ).
Back to the original question about spark plug clearance: I had to use Accel short plugs (276S) to get the wire boot to clear. I don't look forward to pulling the plugs when the time comes. I don't know if that was affected any by the World heads, but I don't think so.
