4th Gen Exhaust Tips

My tail pipes are shot and when I replace them I would like to also install a set of the 4th gen (rectangular) tips. Has anyone done this? How does it look? How do you account for the turndown on our stock pipes?

I personally think the Borla/Hooker exhaust tips look best on our cars.

Anyone else? I don't like the Borla tips, but I think that the rectangular 4th gens would look good.

I have 4th gen tips on my 91 Z, although you can't see them very well in this pic.

They have a clamp riveted to them from the factory, so I drilled it out and took it off. I just took them to an exhaust shop, had them bend tailpipes, and weld the tips on. Cost me $20. I get complements on them all the time, and they're subtle too, not like everyone's 3" chrome angle cut tips.

Yes, the stock rectangular 4th gen tips are in fact stainless. Its not a great quality stainless, but they are stainless nonetheless. They are painted black from the factory, but the used ones I bought were starting to corrode a little. I stripped them down to metal and finish sanded it with 320 grit. 2 coats of gloss black engine enamel and they look good as new.

4th gen Z28 tips....

I don't know his name ont he board, but the guy that has the 12 second, emissions legal, dail driving 305c.i. IROC has them. They look really really really good in my opinion.

Actually, now that I look at the pic, they don't look like 4th gen tips.... but they are the rectangular style... and I still think they look good.

Take a look: http://www.ozemail.com.au/~jca69/mod...willie06-2.jpg

I've heard that the 4th gen tips restrict exhaust flow to some degree because of the wierd transition from round pipe(something about the frequency of the exhaust wave).

I don't know it could be that this guy with the 95 z was making up a story about how he got better flow/power with his new round flowmaster ***** cut tips than stock.

They do look cool though.

A friend of mine has the 4gen tips on his 90 iroc and they look good. I do not like the way they sound tough. They have a raspy note and pop. No offense to those who are running them. I almost put them on my car but I am trying to build a sleeper.

Guys,

That's my car! You'll find me moderating the History/Restoration board on this site.

Yes, they are 4th gen tips but I had them chromed. I've got more pics which aren't shown on my webpage, so if you want to see them, I can e-mail them.

As for the tips being a restriction, all I can say is DON'T WORRY ABOUT THAT. I ran my best time of 12.04 through these tips.
