Converting custom exhaust to an exhaust kit??
Converting custom exhaust to an exhaust kit??
The guy who had my Formula before me converted it from a single-cat to a dual-cat exhaust. He didn't use a kit, but just welded a custom setup. But he didn't do the best job in the world and now my exhaust rattles and looks shoddy. So I want to install either an Edlebrock or Flowmaster exhaust kit, and will probably end up removing the cats completely. But both kits for the 5.0L are single cat, dual out. I asked Jegs about it and they said I should just go to Midas and get a custom exhaust there.
Now, since I'm planning on removing the cats entirely, does it matter if the kits are single cat? All I'd need is a Y-pipe and the cat-back kit, right (along with a portion of straight pipe to weld where the cat would normally go)?
Oh yeah, I talked to Summit's tech line, and the tech support agent told me that my car would run "like crap" w/o cats because it wouldn't have enough back pressure. He suggested converting back to single-cat and running the cat-back kit. He also pointed out that due to my SFCs (Hotchkis) the cat-back kit might not clear, therefore I might have to get a muffler shop to custom bend me something. If that's the case, I guess I'd just buy the Flowmaster muffler and the Y-pipe and leave the rest to the shop, right?
Anyone out there have Hotchkis SFCs with a cat-back exhaust?
Thanks!
