flowmaster series 80 questions
hey there. i just got a 88 firebird with a 305. i plan to put a flowmaster on it, but i have some questions. the car has the factory pipe from cat to muffler, do i need to replace that to something larger, or can i keep it and put the flowmaster right on it where my existing muffler is. also, the existing muffler has a bracket on one side and a strap bracket on the other. i can already hear it raddle as i drive. do i need to get some beefy brackets for support?
thx guys

Yes you can cut the existing muffler and weld in a flowmaster.I just had it done on my 87 formula. When I get more cash I'll put a 3 inch cat and 3 inch pipe to my 80 series. You should replace the stock pipes from the mufler back w/ mandrel bent 2 1/2 inch. For about $25 more you should get some chrome tips.

IMHO don't get the 80 series!! Save your money and get a nice cat-back exhaust from Hooker, SLP, or Edelbrock. Probably cost you roughly $300 bucks or so and is a much better buy. I have the 80 series on my 88 GTA with a 350 TPI. I have the converter removed and 2.5" pipe all the way back including tips. The sound is something I don't consider throaty, more like tinny. It has a hollow tinny sound at certain rpm's, WOT it sounds deep and loud, but a more calmer rpm's the sound is questionable. If I were you I would save your money!! I plan on getting rid of mine in the spring for a Hooker cat-back.
