WHAT KIND OF HEADERS SHOULD I USE AND SHOULD I MAKE DUAL EXHAUST
I HAVE AN '89 GTA AND I WANT TO PUT HEADERS ON IT I THINK I'M DOWN TO EAITHER HOOKER OR SLP WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK IS THE BEST AND WILL GIVE THE MOST HORSEPOWER (STREET LEGAL)? I WAS ALSO THINKING TO PUT DUAL EXHAUST ON IT, IS THAT A GOOD IDEA? HAS ANYBODY DONE IT? IS IT WORTH IT?
For a 305 or stock 350 SLP 1 5/8 headers, dual Random Tech Cats, and SLP 3 inch catback is hard to beat.Go with 1 3/4 headers if you plan on doing internal mods.

I have a similar Q: I was planning on either Hooker Shorties 1 5/8 or TES, and replace my stock dual cats with hi-flo cats and get a 3" int. pipe, any suggestions?
As for true duals, I saw some flexible exhaust tubing, premium grade Stainless, 25' 3" ID for less than $200, 2.5" for $130, it might work and you could pry do it yourself, and save some $$ on labor. Just a thought, I haven't figured out where to put the mufflers yet though.

GO TO THE AFTERMARKET PRODUCT REVIEW BOARD AND GO DOWN TO "SLP HEADERS" IT WILL TELL YOU EVERYTING YOU NEED TO ABOUT HEADERS. I HAVEN'T FOUND MUCH ON HOOKER HEADERS I GUESS THEY DON'T COME WITH THE Y-PIPE AND NOBODY WANTS THEM.
Since you're in California, the smog checkers might hit you if you have dual cats for a true dual exhaust.
I believe Flowmaster has a dual-in, single-out muffler made specifically to plug your headers in and have a single large diameter outlet for the catalytic converter. Because the headers are dumping into a common chamber, it automatically balances out both sides of your V8.
Heavy commercial trucks with V8s had been using the dual-in single-out muffler design for years, so it must work well.
