baking header paint??

How should I bake the header paint onto full length headers?? I don't really want to spend the $$ for coating, so my plan is to paint them then wrap with header wrap.

Would letting the paint cure with header wrap around it affect the paint in any way?? Anyone have a really big oven??

Are these headers going on the IROC, or are you replacing the ones on the Formula?

Techline Coatings offers coatings that you can apply yourself, which do nor require baking. They also offer coatings that require heat curing if you find an oven. All of thier coatings are water-based, so they will not produce toxic fumes. Check with your local auto parts stores to see if Techline's coatings are carried, or order them from Summit or Jeg's.

Personally, I have plans to coat my entire exhaust(inside and out) in a few weeks, when I pull the engine. I also plan to use a variety of thier coatings on the intake(plenum, runners and manifold) to keep those parts cool. Then I'll coat all visible parts with "CermaKrome" to improve the looks.

I used the high temperature header coating from The Eastwood Company and I'm very pleased. It produces fumes for about a minute. Painting the headers will not compare to using this coating. Very easy to apply and one can will coat shorties headers at least 6 or 7 times. The only down fall is if you want to touch them up later the shelf life once opened is only six months and one year before opening. They have dark grey cast iron color and a bright aluminum color. I used the darker one. They still look good and it has been six months. My headers were a year old and rusty, then sandblasted before I coated them. Check out there website.
