Stainless Y-Pipe: Coat It Or Not?

What do you guys think? I've got a set of SLPs that are waiting for JetHot coating(all I lack is $$$). They quoted $179 to coat a set of shorties, plus $12 a foot for the Y-pipe. I'm thinking about skipping the Y-pipe to save some money. Will this make a drastic difference on underhood heat? Or if I coat it will I just be making it pretty? As for appearance, I think the headers will make the biggest visual impact, so I'm willing to make a little sacrifice in that area. Any opinions are appreciated. :hail:

Well, the Y-pipe goes under the oil pan from the d/side header, so if it was wasn't coated, I would think it would heat up the oil in the pan alittle and make youe engine run a tad hotter, esp sitting in traffic when there is no air movement under the car. IMHO, If your coating the headers, get the y-pipe done.

That's true, the y-pipe does run pretty close to the pan. I hadn't thought about it that way Good point.

For about $179 I got my headers and Y-pipe coated, inside and out.

Never heard of a muffler shop coating anything. I'm planning on having it JetHot coated. I know JetHot isn't the only company out there, but I was impressed with their warranty and overall word-of-mouth reputation.
