temporary header alternative

I am planning on replacing my tired LG4 with a gmgoodwrench350 in the next few months.Unfortunatly there aren't an extra 400 or 500 bucks in the budget for a good set of headers like slp or coated tes right away.I don't want to buy cheap ones that will leak or rust but I don't want to hold my new engine back with the stock manifolds. So my questions are:
1) will exhaust manifolds from an L98 equipped 3rd gen flow better than mine and be a cheap substitute for headers until i can afford them?
2) will all my emissions and stock y-pipe directly bolt on to them?
3)how much should I expect to pay for these at a junk yard
4)if I switch to those manifolds would it make sense for my next upgrade to be a high flow cat conv. and catback system and then at a later date add headers?or get the headers first?
sorry this post went on so long
thank in advance for your help

From: out of my mind; be back in 5 minutes....
Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
The L98 manifolds will only be a bit better than the LG4 ones, having an outlet 1/4" larger than your stock ones; the LG4 y-pipe will not bolt up to the L98 manifolds because of the larger outlets.
If you can find the L98 manifolds in a junkyard, I wouldn't think they'd be more than 20-25 bux, and I don't know how much a new y-pipe would run.
A cat and cat-back system is a good upgrade anytime...

you could just get cheap headers. I have the headman smog headers with the Y-pipe.so far no complaints.they went on easy, they don't leak,I'm pretty sure they're not rusting out anytime soon(if you drive durring winter, just spray them down with rust nueatralizer at first sight of rust).just bead-blast the shipping paint off and put many coats of 1200* hi-temp clear on them(tell your friends they're the SLPs..he he) it won't flake off for at least a year.repaint them and sell them once you get your SLPs,you won't lose too much money. I've had mine for almost three years.
