TES header install help........:>
Okay 2 days til I install my Edelbrock TES headers on my 88 IROC TPI.
These headers are used. Other than the small tupes that go between the header bottoms and the top of the Y pipe, were their any gaskets or donuts. Or just the small pipe pieces.
Also what was the hardest part of the install, best tools to use and other tips.
Let me learn from your mistakes.
Thanks guys

You'll definetly need to be able to raise the front of the car up, becuase many of the things you need to do are only accessible from underneath the car. I put mine up on ramps and it worked great. The hadest part is being able to reach some bolts that are on the back of the old exhuast manifolds, and also trying to snake the headers through the engine compartment to get them in. All the job takes is a little patience and a little time. There are header to head gaskets and donuts that go from the header collectors to the Y-pipe. Feel free to ask any questions you have along the way.

As mentioned before ramps work great. Thats what I used. 1st off I disconnected the Intermediate pipe form the cat ,then disconnected the airtube to the cat. From there I took the impact and got the 4 bolts off holding the y pipe to the old manifolds. I then disconnected the cat form the hanger and then slid the y pipe and cat from underneigh the car out. As For the manifolds you will need a 14mm socket ,deep, short ,3/8 ,1/4. For the driver side Forst I disconnected the O2 sensor then the alt bracket I then took out the bolts and pulled the manifold (40 minutes) Once Taken out i then took out my plugs and disconnected steering shaft and moved it to the side in prepare for the header installation. On the passenger side. I found taking out the starter was a good move along with removing the fan switch sensor. I also unbolted my AC compressor and lifted it out of the way. Remove dipstick tube and smog equipment.Get the first 4 bolts from the front uptop and the last 2 underneigh (last one is a real b**ch) It will be then be able to be removed form the top. When installing the pass side, put header in from the bottomand bolt up. once bolted in put sensor back in plugs in and starter back on slide dipstick tube down and back into the hole (use RTV) tighten and put back AC and smog equipment. on driver side slide it in from teh top bolt up, put plugs in and reinstall sterring shaft and Alt bracket. As for Y pipe the only gaskets were the 2 round ones. once that is bolted in slide cat onto new pipe (I had to buy new cat. mine was too small and I have a 350) once that is in and bolted up connect airtube. I had to fabricate a plastic hose to connect them. bolt cat to the hanger and connect exhaust and thats it. after driving around a while let it cool down and retighted bolts ( I highly recommed stage 8 Lock bolts) I used them and havent had any problems. Good Luck
Thanks tomorrow is the day.
I got the exhaust donuts from a muffler shop.
I will have the car on a lift and a buddy who has installed at least 5 headers. The only bummer will be finding out if the rear manifold (exhaust) bolt is broken.
I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks
