Hooker or Edelbrock
Hooker or Edelbrock
I'm debating over the street legal Hooker and Edelbrock headers. Both have the AIR tubes to retain the emissions equipment and both have 1 5/8" tubes. Does anybody have any experience with either of these?
I'd especially like to hear from those with the Hookers b/c I don't know anybody personally who has them.
Any help is appreciated,
Jason

I have the Hooker headers (model 2055) and they're great. Fit very well, didn't need to jack up the engine, only needed to get the mouth of the cat expanded a little. The primary tubes on the Edelbrock headers aren't all 1 5/8" (1/2 of them are 1 1/2") , and with the welding slag inside, they're less than that. Spark plug access is pretty good on the Hookers, although a few plugs will require a shortened or slotted spark plug socket. I've had mine for over 2 years and love 'em. I had mine coated by JetHot and the primary tubes still look brand new, and I drive my IROC in all kinds of weather.

I am debating over the same thing as "89" and I am wondering about torque/hp increases with the hookers. Even if you dont have #'s at least tell me by SOTP.
Thanks.

I might dyno my IROC in the spring before I drop in the 350/355, but I can tell you that there was a nice SOTP increase and a decrease in et and increase in mph at the track. It's hard to compare runs before/after headers, but I'd say I picked up a good 2 tenths and maybe 1.5 mph. Low-end and mid-range torque definitely increased, as spinning my rear tires became even easier and the engine will pull quite strongly (TCC locked up) from even below 1500 rpm.
