Loudest cat back?

Ok, I have asked this before, but now my exhaust leaks so i am sick of it. I am ready to get a cat back system, but what will be the loudest. I want the deepest possible sound that is loud as hell when I get on it. How much cash would this set me back?

i have a flowmaster 40 series muffler, and it is pretty damn loud. the 40 is the loudest series of mufflers that flowmaster makes. i dunno whether or not flowmaster has a cat-back that comes with the 40 series muffler though.

usually a cat-back will run you like between 250 and 350 bucks. unless you want to go stainless or something like that, which is considerably more.

My Hooker is the loudest out of all the various ones my friends have on there cars (Edelbrock and American Thunder) but my car has headers. I really like the sound of the Hooker, its a low rumble at idle and it just screams at WOT.

Dan, you are just -the- man! You like the sound of your Hooker and she rumbles and screams.

Seriously, I have the Dynomax SuperTurbo cat-back, and it loosened up a lot after putting some miles on it and sounds great now with no droning on the highway. Their Ultra Flo cat-back is good too, the only difference being a stainless-steel muffler instead of aluminized steel, and it's more expensive of course. I have Hooker headers too, and have run with a gutted cat and an RT cat, and it sounds great either way.

i can't go straight pipes cause I need the emissions crap for e-check. How do you think the hooker would sound without the headers?..Also, to save some money I would like to put this on myself. This should be easy if I can borrow a friend's lift, right?

LOL, nice comment, Greg. You can do it yourself if you know how to turn a ratchet, I didn't even use a lift, just a floor jack ro raise whatever side of the car I needed to get under, its a really easy job, it takes like an hour or so at the most.

great, so with a lift it should be easy as hell. So what will sound best without headers? Headers may be down the road, but for now i wanna set off alarms with my rumbling exhaust.

If you have the money you can get borla stainless steel catback it's a adjustable system...it's sounds great and very loud with and if you think that it is too loud just throw in a plate...I have this system on my car...and i love it!!!

Also spend the extra money and have someone weld it together

I would really like that. Adjustable would be awesome. How much did that set you back?

first, if your gona do this yourself, remeber, these kinda things rairly go as planned and nothing you ever do on a car is "easy as hell" i speak from experiance

second, if you want really loud, i mean really really loud, your gona have to do a custom setup. I know in summit i saw the turbo tube style early Z28 mufflers, if you can hook them on your car, those might be pretty loud. Also, glasspacks sound bad *** too (dont give me any crap guys, you know if you knew you weren't gona get crap for running them you would)

Also, i have the plan for the ultimate 3rd gen exhaust. Im doing this on my car someday soon. I am going to get headers that exit straight down, (unlike my eldebrocks that curve over to cross under the pan) From there, its straight 2.75 inch pipe back to an H-pipe, random tech cats, and then out through Borla XR-1 race mufflers. Then XR-1's are a straight through design that barely quiets it (but they are street legal) and then im dumping the exhaust out in front of the rear tires with slash cut chrome 3 inch tips. So there is the plan for true dual loud *** exhaust on a third gen. And dont let anyone tell you that you can't do true dual on a thirdgen either, thats garbage, you can do whatever you want if you try hard enough,. So there you go.

jim91rs,

The system runs about $500.00, its comes in about 7 pieces (which i really didn't care for)...if you notice on the right side of the exhaust...the exhaust gases can be routed straight out the right exhaust pipe if you leave the plate out...once you install the plate, it starts a restriction and directing the gases thru the muffler...

BTW...I have had glasspacks on previous cars and there is a reason that they only cost $10 each....there junk!!!

Go to a shop and have them cut the pipe and split it so you still have two exits and keep the cat on.Then screw the muffler dont put one on just have the two exits. You should pass emmisions becuase you would still have on the cat and it is loud as hell. My friend did it to his dodge ram. He said it only costs about $100.

Headers, 3" y-pipe, whatever behind it, just add a Flowtech 3" exhaust cutout in front of the cat
