Dual Cherrybombs?
Dual Cherrybombs?
i was thinking about running true dual exhaust with dual cherrybomb glasspack style mufflers. i'm doing this as a cheap/tough sounding exhaust set up. i'm not running cats and i don't need it to pass any emissions tests, i'm just wondering how this will effect my cars performance. also i don't wanto hear everyones "you need backpressure" bull**** responces. but thanks in advance for your help.
I don't know what you have right now. Stock? Do you have a regular Q-Jet or a CCC-controlled carb and distributor. I'd rather do the glasspack and headers thing with an older non-CCC engine, personally. For that older stuff, just have some richer jets or metering rods around and some different HEI weights and springs.
Freeing up the exhaust usually causes a lean condition all around, especially since Q-Jets are normally set up lean to begin with. Those headers and glasspacks will do a better job of scanvenging the combustion chamber but the lack of exhaust residue will effectively create an overlean condition and then you'll have pinging. Sure, you could retard the timing but that hampers performance and you're back to where you started. Richen the primaries a little at a time until it "runs right".

Running true dual exhaust w/ glasspacks is the quickest way to get exhaust out of the engine (and it's usually a guarantee for increased performance), but the only way to find out for sure is the dyno (and that's usually out of the question for most home mechanics). Still . . . you can't really lose because it's the cheapest exhaust system to build, it almost always sounds ultra-tough (a feature I greatly admire), and it's 99% likely to give you SOME type of power increase.
you need back pressure. nah just messin around. i had the same thing done to my iroc and it helped it breath alot better. also, have the mufflers as close to the tips as possible, the closer it is to the tip...the deeper the sound it is.
I bet none of you have ever heard of twin turbo mufflers on a third gen have you? Well thats what i have and when i first got then they scraped like H*** (big suprise)so I put HighJacker air shocks on. But dealing with the cat when i took mine off along with the rest of the single exaust i noticed a pretty
significant increase in power and it sounds awsome. The pipes come out under the door.

Sorry, but I'd still bet it's a modified car, or you had a seriously screwed catalytic converter/bent up exhaust to start. You shouldn't have any torque increase at all, especially with a stock under 200HP engine. Admit it, you gotta be modified...
