Cheap Summit Muffler Nice and Loud ??
Cheap Summit Muffler Nice and Loud ??
Hi,
My 15 yr old nephew from Texas who just totalled
his beautiful 2nd gen Camaro with the 454 and headers, flowmaster, lopy cam and all, which his Dad * bought for him * , tells me that if I want a louder sound on my 88 GTA for cheap, I should just put on a cheap Summit muffler. He says the cheap ones are shorter, and therefore louder, and will still hook up the right way with the 2 tailpipes working normally.
Will this setup sound good ? Or just like a muffler going bad ?
Thanks

I got the 3" in/out Summit turbo on my GTA. I had a Cherry Bomb on it before. That thing was too loud at 5 a.m.., so, I got the el-cheapo $19 muffler and it is quiet-ER, not alot but noticable. It sounds really cool at 3200 RPM and above. Sounds like a NASCAR or something! So far, so good. Great for under 20 buck! But if you want loud for cheap, go with a cherry bomb. $17 for 2.5" at Discount Auto. If I were made of money, I'd go Flowmaster or that new Ravin' muffler looks kinda cool, they clain it is really loud.

Hey Chris,
Thanks for responding !
I don't need to **** everyone off with an extremely loud car. I just want a muffler that is noticeably louder than stock, and which has a deep, ballsy, big-displacement V8 sound. I just want to know if you can get that good sound from just a muffler. I don't need more HP, just want a good sound from the muffler.
Is the Cherry Bomb unbelievably loud ? Louder than no muffler at all ?

Well, put it like this. When I put that cherry bomb on, my car was completly stock.
But sounded like a total bad@ss with the bomb on it. Then later on down the line I get some headers on that thing and I really ticked off the neighbors. I am a solider and I live on post. I could get in trouble, so I opted of a cheap fix. It is still a low rumble at idle, muffled though. But once the car is warmed up(I always let it warm up) and go out to the main road and hit it, it sounds pretty cool. The bomb is a classic hot rod part that I grew up around, and I kinda miss it. It was loud, but not as loud as a stright pipe, no way. The Summit is a good compromise. But yeah, I think for the money both are good parts and I really dont care if they are cheap, they serve their purpose. Just don't put a chezzey fart can tip on your GTA and you will be O.k.!
