Maybe some of you have seen my posts going around, maybe not. Here's the deal. I'm in the process of planning out my 400 sbc build up. My goal is 450-500HP/TQ. Since this is the exhaust forum, you know what's coming... What kind of exhaust should I be looking for? Will a 3" cut the mustard or do I need to look into a 4"?
If the 3" will work, then I was stuck between SLP and Borla. Both are SS. SLP is cheaper. Borla seems to get praise upon praise here. Comparing the SLP to the Borla with your plate of choice. Which is louder, which has the deeper rumble, and which has that wonderful roar?
If I have to go 4", what do you recommend? Full custom, or are their companies that make good systems. SS would deffinately be a huge preference due to the wonderful winter corrosion experienced here near Chicago.
What about headers, will the 1 3/4" be acceptable? Recommended cat?

Hooker 1 3/4" long-tube SuperComps, Mufflex mandrel bent 4". If you must run a cat(s), Random Technologies is most reputable. www.mufflex-performance.com www.randomtechnology.com

Hi, I have a setup putting out similar HP #'s. Alot of people on here will tell you 3in is enough, and their proof is in the fact that there are 9sec TTA's and such running single 3in. But others will tell you it is not enough, I have not seen their proof yet. AS far as headers, everyone on here is wild about SLP's, I have not heard a complaint about them. Good Luck

Wow, you're putting out similar numbers with a 355? Or do you have another car? I also saw that you live in California, so you have some of the strictest emissions. Is your car also carbed? If so, how do you pass emissions? That's my big thing, I'll go for more power if I can, but I need to pass emissions. I was planning on getting a miniram, even though I love carbs(so simple to work with). Also, I've been recommended a tremec tranny, which is rated up to 525tq, If I were to go over that, say near the 600 range, what kind of tranny would I then be looking at?

The best smog legal headers are SLP's, in my opinion. They're your only choice for 1 3/4" smog legal headers too.
