Is this legal?

Is it illegal to have your exhaust exit out under the door or behind the door? My friends dad said that it had to exit past the gas tank and I wanted to know if it was true or not.

Only thing I've ever heard is it has to exit outside the plane of the passenger compartment. That's what it was when I was last in California, but that was 8 years ago.

You could walk around and act gay, that would draw attn..

Or dress like a pimp, that may work.

I dont think its legal but who really cares?? Unless you have smog or "state inspection" then you might have trouble.

If you just have to pass a visual im sure a 20 spot will get you a sticker...always has for me.

Yes, CA is really strict on that crap, and please don't ever suggest me walking around like I am gay. I already walk like a pimp anyways.(lol)

What about cars like the viper (and arent there those special mustangs?) that came stock with exhaust exiting before the rear tires?

two words Ford Mustang. When I lived in Cali I saw this mustang in my town all the time it was some variation of the Cobra or GT or something, anyway, they came with tips that exit right at the rear of the door. If Ford could sell that in Cali, I don't see why someone couldn't just stick tips on their car and have them exit there, but that would be typical of California laws.

i dont know bout anyother state, but in Michigan the exhaust is supposed to exit in the stock location. i know this cuz when i had my 5.0 thunderbird, i used to get stopped all the time for the exhaust exiting in front of the rear tires.
