I've got an 85 Z28 with a 305 and I'm thinking of getting a flowmaster muffler, but the only one available for the 3rd gen is the 80 series, which may be to loud for me. (I don't want it's bark to be worse than it's bite)
Thanks Guys

They're not as loud as Flowmaster would like u to believe. Interior resonance is pretty good at idle, but can hardly hear it on the interior at speed. Has a nice deep rumble to it, kinda like a big truck. Sounds real sweet when u punch it too!

I have a 40 series catback on my T/A, and it's damn loud and roars when I step on it. The 80 series is quieter and has a more metallic sound to it... you'd probably be happier with a 40 series.

single in, single out. If u go w/ 40 series they will have to customize it. If u do get it make it like the Borla. They still retain the dual tail-pipes, but the passenger-side tail-pipe is open exhaust. The driver's side is the muffled side, or u could have the muffler upstream and have a single tail-pipe

There are dual out 40 series mufflers... I don't know if they make them in the 3" size though. But as far as looks go, who gives a ****? The people who look at my single exhaust pipe are also looking at my taillights.

And how do you have a 5 speed automatic T/A?

It's OK. You will be happier with a whole cat-back though. It's not very loud on my car, not in my opinion. It has a very tinny sound but acceleration from 0-20 sounds pretty good. You just have to hear one to really know how it sounds.

MrJ--Typo in the sig, thanks 4 catching it.

I am personally against having a cat-back system unless you have headers already installed. A cat-back is virtually worthless unless the flow upstream has low restriction. Headers are worth 20-25 hp, the stock cat is worht 10-15 alone. Once you unclog your exhaust flow, then u should move onto a cat-back. Of course you could always do the cat-back 1st but you won't realize your power as much if you were sporting some headers and a higher flowing (or gutted) cat.

I put Flowmaster's Force2 cat-back system on mine. It is 3"in/out and is mellow, but not girly car mellow, it is a manly mellow and deep. Plus, with the single out people think mine is a v-6 by appearence so it is kind of stealthy. It sound GREAT but not loud.

If you like things that look un-even, go with the single out. I'm sure many will agree, single out exaust looks funny at the back of a 3rd Gen. I have the 3 inch Flowmaster from the cat back. The tail pipes are brushed stainless 3 inchers. Not too big and not too small. They tuck up under the bumper just enough to look sleak. I ordered the system from Summit almost 2 years ago and have been super pleased ever since. Nothing but compliments on sound AND look. I've seen dual outlet/single side systems and to me, it looks like a Honda's exaust.

Like I said, way to much emphasis is put on the damn exhaust pipes by people. It sounds better than a dual exit setup, since it is less restrictive. It hardly looks like a Honda, it's a 3", non-chrome pipe. IMO 2 chrome tips looks like a ******* truck.
