Header gasket question

I don't have a garage to do this in, so I dropped my car off at a local shop of horrors. They've spent 9 hours trying to change a set of gaskets...of course they charge by the hour. Is this as ridiculous as it sounds? It feels like they're playing a game of scrabble between each bolt, and I'm paying for it. The worst part is, 9 hrs and they still aren't done! The headers/engine only have 30k and 1 yr on them, so it's not like the threads haven't been turned in 12 yrs.

They are also guessing 4-5 hours labor to install a pair of bolt in frame ties...

HELP!! Anyones experience with either of these will be greatly appreciated!

9 hours to change a set of gaskets????? that is way too long, you can do a whole header installation in that time. 9 hours at arond 45 dollars an hour for gaskets?? you'd beter go in there and find out what in the heck is going on.....

Sounds fishy too me. You should become friends with a mechanic type and have him/her fix it for free, or go to another shop. These guys sound like Pep Boys mechanics.

I swapped my engine in about 16 hrs. That was my first swap ever. If it's taking 9 hrs to change a header gasket, you're getting screwed. Go pay them for an hour's work and if they refuse, bust out a can of whupass.
