Need opinions on exhaust set-up.

Hello,

My next step in mods will be headers/exhaust. Let me give you my current set-up, and I would appreciate any advice or experience anyone has to offer.

I have a 1988 GTA. 355 (.030 overbore on an L-98), forged pistons, World Heads, Comp blower cam, Holley 650 cfm carb, Weiand 142 supercharger.

A new 700r4 is on the way, so the transmission will be out of the car pretty soon. I am thinking installing headers would be a good thing to do with the tranny out. (The stock single cat system is in now.)

Any advice on which headers to use?? Maybe Hooker Super Comps? How about exhaust systems? Any ideas? I've been reading this board extensively for info, so I might as well pose the question here and get some other input while you have the details of my combo.

Any experience or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Phil

Since someone will eventually tell you the standard lemming setup,,, here it is,,, SLP 1 5/8 or 1 3/4 headres & a Flowmaster catback. Live with it or else,,,,
you must conform LoL

I'd guess the Hookers should do you fine & any 3" or better exhaust will do you justice,,, no one make a superior (flowing)pipe,,, just different sounding mufflers.

The Hooker 1.75" full-lengths should do great. From there you may want to try dual 3" at least back to the axle since you're running a 'real' blower. To do the dual 3" you will probably want to modify your floorpans especially in the backseat area.
Just cut the bowl-shaped dips out (the sheetmetal under the rear seats),
flatten the bowl shape out a bit,
flip the bowl over so that the dip points up,
then weld the metal back into the whole.
This will give you spaces to put decent mufflers without dragging the ground.
Get some mandrel 3" bends to go from the collector around the trannymount & subframe.
good luck

Damn ODB, stop giving my answers

I was gona say what ODB just said. If you want the car to be really loud and you want decent ground clearance, run 3" pipe into borla XR-1 race mufflers and then exit out the side of the car. If you want to quiet it down a bit, run some random technology cats. Or if you want to run he exhaust out the back, i think mufflex makes a 4inch single pipe system for our cars.

Hey,

Thanks for the replies. This side-exit exhaust sounds pretty cool. Any idea what a set-up like that would cost? Or where I could get it ordered? I have only been looking through Summit...which seems kind of limiting.
