Headers or Capped Stock Manifold?
I am trying to decide if I will use hook competition headers with the O2 sensor already welded in or.....recoat and cap the stock manifolds. By the way, Hooker Comp headers have a three bolt flange which won't work with the stock Y pipe. So I have to decide if putting headers on is worth paying another $200 dollars to have a custom Y pipe made for my IROC. With the manifolds, I just need new flange bolts but is it worth it?
Thanks-

No , headers will fit the stock y pipe, and when you pull it off, you'll be glad they don't, it's a horrible design. Just get the Hooker 2055 Super comps that come with a y pipe. $350.
having a custom one can be pricey, and they may not do a good job on it.

So....are headers just plain better?
I forgot to mention that:
1. I am still using the stock TPI Set-up
2. I physically have the Hooker Headers (not the smartest purchase) now, in my possession, with the fitting welded in
3. I am looking not to spend very much (it is not fun trying to work on cars and save money)
4. I have removed all emission and smog devices
But I will spend the $200 for a new Y-pipe....if I hear it will out perform and be better for my engine than stock manifolds- ???

Well, you do happen to have one of the better 3rd gen factory exhausts, but the manifolds and stock y pipe, are still restrictive, and headers and new y pipe will increase performance and sound, nicely.

The headers you have are worlds better than the stock manifolds. Don't scrimp on the y-pipe, insist on 2-1/2" down pipes to 3" at the cat, with smooth bends and no neck-downs. It'll be worth it.
Places around here said they could only make 2 1/4'' y pipe...dont let them do that. My "custom" y pipe I had made was ****ty. Make sure you look at it and dont pay for it unless its good and you like it.
