Where to get 3" piping?

Where to get 3" piping?

I want to get a piece of 3" piping to put inside my cat converter when I gut it, but the largest out local hardware store has is 2.5", where can I get 3"? Also, what material should I get, aluminum or what? Also, before I put it in the cat, will I need to put it in the freezer to shrink it? Thanks!

Look in the Yellow Pages for a performance exhaust shop. I know there's one down here on Colfax & Kipling that does 3" exhaust, they'd sell you a chunk for your purposes. What you should do, though, is measure the ID of your cat, and get a piece of pipe with that OD (might be 2-7/8"). The heat/freezer routine wouldn't help much with a 1/8" difference. Use steel (stainless if available), as the heat at the cat would probably be a bit high for aluminum (steel would be stronger for the insertion process as well).

Good luck on your sniffer test after your mod, however.

Then there's people like me who go for over kill with a 4 inch pipe from the headers al the way back to a single muffler at the rear with no kitty in between

i could not find that stuff ANYWHERE. i had to call Summit and order a 4 footer from them for like 15 bucks. it came in like 2 days, so i didnt have to wait forever for it.

Usually your muffler shop will have that kind of stuff. Thats where I got mine. I didn't put it thru the cat though.
