Anyone ever cut off all 8 AIR injection tubes and just run one pipe to the collector?

Let me try to explain that again. I am looking to clean up my engine compartment while I drop my engine in and I am getting rid of the eight individual AIR tubes going to the primaries. I'm going to run a single line back to the collector instead. Anybody see any problems with this?

Aside from not passing a visual smog check that way, its fine. The LT1's only have one pipe going to one of the primaries for the AIR tube.

Uhh, thanks fellas. I hope to BS the smog guys if I have to pass that but we'll see. I hope to "baffle 'em with b*ll****" and do a song and dance saying that that is how the new ones are done. As far as being a "genius" Man, I wish. When I get it done I'll write it up you can count on it!

My friend's s-10 2.8L has the air just going into the manifold in one place. The tube looked to be about 5/8".

Was it a metal tube? I wonder how hot the air is in there; can I use a silicon hose? I bet it gets damn hot where it attaches to the cat, but I can't see why it would be hot enough to melt silicon... Anyone?

The AIR tubes are at the exhaust ports to assist in the burning of exhaust as it leaves the cylinder on cold startup. This allows the converter to heat up quicker. These is the reasons GM put AIR Injection by the ports. Disabling the AIR injection IS also illegal and will not pass visual inspection.

Well, aren't fourth gen's piped into one spot? My understanding has always been that the air is pumped in to help the cat burn the exhaust gasses. If that is the case then it shouldn't matter where the air gets injected - it just matters that it does. As far as "legality" - I'll get over it as long as it passes emissions it shouldn't matter how it passes. Least to me. Boy howdy, when I'm king...

The rich mixture from cold startup necessitates the air being injected closer to the ports! Especially with batch fire FI and carb setups. The newer sequential FI cars only have one tube to the exhaust manifolds because they are more efficient. You may think it does not matter where the air is injected but if it did'nt then why did GM spend millions researching it?
