does anyone know the facts for NYS emmision laws?? like how old the car has to be in order to be excused and the maxium emmisions allowed for cars. i'm not to worried about havin no cats or A.I.R. system cause i still know a few mechanichs that will hook me up wit a pass but i was just wondering. thanx

 

Hello, my father owns a shop and does the New York State Inspections (NYSI)... Yeah, they suck because the car has to go on a dyno. In 2003 the car has to be 1983 or prior and it wont have to be dynoed and 25 years or old and its only a safty inspection so none of us fall into that group. You can hide the the cats and air pumps but whatever the machine comes up with from your car being on the dyno will be what it is, you cant change what comes out of the exhaust. Shops used to use different cars, but now you have to drive the car on the dyno and there are cameras also. So it really really sucks... I'm hoping my car will pass in march.
