have true duals. where should i exit? HELP me out..

I have an 86 transam w/ 350 and a bunch of goodies.

my exhaust start with hooker headers then true duals w/ 2chamber flowmasters. they are under the passenger seat. Also, right now i have the piping going over the rear axle and exiting in the stock locations.

what kind of sound difference will i get if i just cut off the piping off, and have it dump after the axle?

Also, what if I dump it before the axle, so there is no big end over the axle. Then pretty much it's straigh piping from the muffler?

what would be better for sound and performance? I heard the less piping means it'll be deeper. is this true.

thanks.

hey i'm in the process of putting the same kind of exhaust on my car. i've cut out the floor pans and have the mufflers mounted. just waiting to get my heads back to finish it. to your question , the tailpipes do make the car allot quieterand they would be restricting the exhaust flow, by how much only track time would tell. did you put your back seats back in? any problems with heat ?

If its possible can u guys put your cars on a lift and take a pic of the whole undercar from header to exhaust tip. I ve seen a true dual on a third gen but he was drag racing all the time, never got a chance to get a good look at it.

dont cut the pipes until they have cleared the rear ground effects. At idle or sometimes at cruise spped there will be a low pressure area right under neath the gas tank area, the fumes could wind back in your car, which isnt good. So make the pipes terminate past the rear bumper like it does stock.

i don't have the capability to give you apicture.i took the carpet up and the seats out.with a cutoff wheel on my 4" grinder i cut out the floor pans and pop riveted apiece of galvanizes metal over the opening which is basically flat now. i sealed it with silicone/. i covered the area with hi temp boiler insulation i got from work. the back of the mufflers [flowmaster 2 chambers] are held up with hangers, hanging from the back of the rear seat. the fronts are held by 2 1/2 conduit brackets hanging off the floor pan. they are even with the subframe connecters. hope this helps
