POR 15 application

After reading aaalllooottt of post on headers and keeping in mind that i only got a part time job...Ive decided to go with the edelbrock tes...Now my question is about hoe to properly apply the por 15....People recomened sand blasting them...What is that??...My dad works in a body shop and i was wondering if i can sand them with rough sanding paper.....I presume that you only apply the por to the exterior of the headers....

You dont have to sandblast them. I just got done with my first coat and I just painted right over the flat black paint that came on the headers. I have Hooker SuperComps so I dont know if the TES are different. I got the semi-gloss black and it looks real nice.

Hey, I think what you need is the por20, which is for high heat. I have the por15 and it suggests having either a rusty surface or a sandblasted one. If they're painted i think it would be best to strip that off. Your dad will know what sandblasting is if he works at a autobody shop, its just shooting sand at high pressures to remove rust/paint and strip to fresh clean metal.
Oh and id imagine you only do the outside.

Good luck, get us some picks when your done if ya can

the edlebrocks come with a sticker saying you have to sandblast and repaint them, ticked me off!if they are going to paint them why not use heat resistant paint!

There is actually a very cheap and easy solution to flaking header paint. I had a buddy who swore that if you wiped them down with trans fluid the paint would not flake off. He did it to the headers on his 500 horse monster truck and the paint is still on to this day (10 years!). Of course, this truck is only a toy to drive around his property and crush cars. I don't know how well it would hold up in daily driving but its worth a shot. I told another guy about it and he used it on his dirt bike and again the paint never burned off either.
