i had to go take emissions las tweek and failed horribly. limit on hydrocarbons is 2.0 i was at 4.58. limits on carbon monoxide was 30.0 and i was at 52.2 i just got a new cat and change the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. any other suggestions? i'm going back tomarrow to attempt to pass. thanks for any help

 

Make sure your car is warm when it is going in to get tested.

 

Ya, just run it for a while, and try that guranteed to pass stuff, donno if it works let us know.

 

When i had the catalytic converter changed in my 89 formula before i sold it, the mechanic told me to drive the car at least a week before going to emissions testing, i guess there is a break in period for it......so i did that and it passed with flying colors.....good luck to ya.....

 

change the oil and air filter, replace or at least clean the PCV valve. drive it alot so that the engine is nice and warm when its time for the test. making sure the timing is set correctly, dont have it too far advanced. good luck

 

ok i just did an oil change and bought a new aircleaner also. it was nice and hot because i need to replace my electric fan. haha. i just bought that emissions stuff that u put in the gas tank and i'll give it a go and let you guys know how it works.

 

Is your car carb or tpi? if its tuned port, change your oxygen sensor, that will do it every time. Hell, i put on a different cat when i went and failed. So i changed my oxygen sensor and it fixed all problems. i also put in fuel injector cleaner. If your car isnt tpi, then the only thing i can tell ya is to use fuel cleaner and go on the highway and run it pretty good.

Sounds like you are running a little rich. Whether carb or FI, change the O2 sensor. Try to test the car with a warm engine.
