OK heres the car:
1989 RS 305 TBI Dead stock like from the factory.
First Mod:
3" American Thunder Cat-Back (80 Series Muffler) +
High Flow Gutted Cat
Results:
Noticable Top-End gain, NO noticable low end torque loss. Car comes off the line like a bullet, Shifts hard through the gears (stock 700R4 with 80K miles, same 80K as engine), makes lotsa noise. However, At cruising speeds you can barelly tell your cars running, except for the distinct rumble it makes. (Turn on the Cd-player and you dont even realize its there) I beleive Flowmaster designed it this way, thank god.
All this crap i hear about backpressure = torque... wheres it come from? it cant be fiction since so many people talk about it, but my cars runs freaking AWSOME with no backpressure, yes i have stock manifolds and Y-pipe but from there is all 3" out! the part where the cat goes from 2.5 to 3" is a special $30.00 pipe that flowmaster sells to Slope into the 3" so there is no "solid wall". It's Great and i highly recommend it as a first or 2nd mod for a stock car. my neighbors love it too hehehe, but only when i gun it. like i said you dont have to worry about noise and crap till you step into it. Like my dad always says, keep ure foot out of the carb :-)
