Negative effects of Removing SMOG belt???

I am curious if there are any negative effects, short of hurting the environment, of taking the belt of my smog pump and running a gutted cat. Thanks.

The only negetive effect is getting fined if you get caught. While the AIR pump removel may not give you more power,it will get some of the "Garbage" out of the way.Gutting the cat.will give you about 10HP (give or take)

REMOVING the smog pump(as in taking it completly off) will lighten the front end by about 20 lbs and improve handling. taking the belt off will free up 5-10hp because it takes extra effort for the engine to turn with it on-like underdrive pulleys and people not running with A/C

Also what will happen with the AIR will exhaust go back up the tubes from the headers? Will it go back up from the Cat? Will this head towards the solenoid housing and back into the engine bay? And what harm can this do. Thanks.

Your tag says that you are from NY.
There sould be strict laws enforcing the emmisions there. The belt will free up HP not much at least not anything noticble. the removal of the cat will give you a noticable amount of power especially if its clogged up.
As far as the air tubes on the manifold it can be bent over or plugged. the air tube from the cat can be removed, theres a bolt on the back of the head. But i would not remove the smog crap unless you dont have to do an emissions test it is against the LAw
