I hear that they are quiet at first but get louder as the innards rot out, which is pretty fast from what I'm told. I saw flow numbers once and they are comparable to a flowmaster. If you're only looking at a muffler instead of a catback, I'd just shell out the extra $$ for a flowmaster 80 series or a Hooker Aerochamber. They're only about $70-$75.

if sound is what your looking for hooker or flowmaster is what your want. I have not heard the random tech. have heard edlebrock, magnaflow, dynomax and all were quite a bit quieter than the hooker or flowmaster. I have the borla which sounds good but the kits is not that great and it is expensive.

I put a 3" Cat back system on my 82 - Z28.

It sounds pretty good. It "Blatts" a little under acceration but otherwise sounds mellow.

Installation was easy with all the original hangers.

I also put on Edelbrock TES headers and an aftermarket 3" Cat from an '84 Corvette.

Everything bolted right up.

I can vouch for Random Tech...their 9000 series Cat did wonders for my exhaust. Before i had put on that cat, i had a 2 chamber flowmaster installed. That was nice...real nice...once the cat went on...WOW. The next door Mustang owner came up to me and asked me if i had headers put on...that should say enough...i dont know about their mufflers tho. I assume its similar.

i decided to go with the dynomax system. But it suppossed to bolt in palce, but i had such a difficult time trying to get the pipe in place. i have to use a lift today to do it. what types of gains can i expect?

If anybdy wants a dynomax system i have a nice setup.It has about 100 miles on it(looks new,even stickers are nice still+readable)it is from a 84 z-28 h.o. comes with : gm h.o. intake+exhaust manifolds,gm x-over(4-bolt cat..gutted)(all supposed to be bigger+more flow than the stock v-8 gms)and the dynomax is 4-bolt,3"pipe with dynomax muffler+dual tailpipes.like i say,its virtually new....im going to run a 350 now with headers,so im selling this stuff cheap!!
make a offer, and convert that stock car and get a little more horses out of her!!and still look stock! asking$175 obo,or trade for earlier 350 2.02 heads...not 1.94!!can be stock or prefer aftermarket, iroc tails+145 speedo(cabledriven)

Steve, swinging that long I-pipe over the axle is a total pain... but it can be made much easier if you drop the axle down! That's not as bad as it seems...

1. Block the front wheels. Put a hydraulic jack under the rear axle. Raise the car up, and support the chassis with jack stands right in "front of" the rear control arms.

2. Lower the hydraulic jack a bit. Remove the anti-sway-bar end-links from the chassis (you can leave them on the bar itself if they're rusty).

3. Undo the lower shock-to-axle nuts; you might need a back-up wrench on the bolt to keep it from spinning

4. Lower the axle until the lower shock bolts slide out of the axle (might require light tapping with a hammer). Push the shocks out of the way of the axle, and lower the axle some more. Make sure the axle doesn't hang itself on the lower shock bolts.

5. Reach up and remove the springs before they fall on you. Un-do the rear "center brake hose to car body" clip. Lower the axle some more, taking care not to stress that brake hose! (Don't let the axle hang by it!)

6. You should be able to slide the i-pipe underneath, now. It doesn't have to hook around the axle anymore since the axle's on the ground.

7. If you need more clearance, you can "free" the rear steel brake line from the chassis to get an extra inch or two of room so you don't stress out the brake hose.

When I put the dynomax on my friends car, after smashing my fingers several times trying to get the damn pipe in, I did the only logical thing. I cut that damn hanger off, swung the pipe through, and tack-welded the little bastard back on. If I had done that in the first place I would have had the whole thing done on the ground in less than 45 min.

all you have to do is jack up the right side of the car high as possible, and take out the three bolts that hold that rear end brace bar,and pull it down...makes enough room to get the pipe through
