Has anyone ever used Flowtech headers? (For '82-'92 F-bodies)
Hello,
Has anyone ever used the Flowtech's for '82-'92 F-bodies? If so, do they have 02 and A.I.R bungs already on them or do you have to put them in yourself? How are they clearance-wise (take up more/less space than manifolds?)
Thanks,
Matthew C. Hall

My friend had the Flowtechs on an 84 T/A and the passenger side hit the firewall. It did have the O2 sensor fiting, but not the AIR tube fittings. Also, they don't have a y-pipe to go with them, so he had one made. It ended up costing almost as much as edelbrocks, but poorer quality.
I've heard good things about Headman Headers. They are about $90 and the y-pipe is $90. They do have the O2 sensor fitting, but not the AIR.
The AIR injection into the manifolds can be bypassed to the cat without any effect on drivability or passing emissions since the air is directed to the manifolds during cold start up, and then to the cat after normal temp is reached. You go through emissions when the car is hot, so it won't matter, unless you fail a visual inpection.

My friend got flowtechs for his 92 TBI, along with the y-pipe (they do make one). They are not smog legal, but they do have an O2 sensor fitting, unlike my heddmans. Also, the installation was easier (didn't have to jack up the engine), and with the 1 1/2 inch primaries they produce more torque than with mine, which are 1 5/8.
Hey Matt, don't buy flowtech headers they are very cheap made they are thin and will burn out very easy they are not worth the $$$$$$$$$. You may ask how I know, well I work at O'Reilly auto parts and we sell them and I have had alot of bad problems with them. I try to sell Dynomax or hooker these are a thick good built header and will not burn out very quick its better to spend the $$$$$$$ on a better header
Hope I helped

I installed a set of the Flowtechs on my brothers 88 tbi car 4 years ago and they still have no leaks but a little bit of rust.He just recently put in a 355 and they still work great, but if you do buy them also get the y-pipe.

i have no problem with them on my 85LG4 motor the only problem you will have is getting the 02 sensor wire back the the engine because its farther down. everything else is straight forward
they must make a different design header than they did a few years ago because, after spending two nights trying to make flowtechs fit in my camaro i cut them in half with a sawzall and threw them away.i got a set of hooker shorty comps off ebay brand new for $50!even new theyre not that badly priced.just remember that the cheaper the header, the easier and faster it will rot out.if yo ucan afford it,get something ceramic coated of jet-hot coated.im too poor for that though lol
