NEW exhaust advice

All of you have recommended that one of my first mods should be 3" exhaust. I agree and would like to do this just once. I bought it with flowmaster muffler and tailpipes. The muffler appears to be 3" inlet reduced to 2.25" to match original exhaust. Since in NC exhaust lasts forever, I want to make the right decision. What I want is for it be too loud while cruising down the interstate. I would like to remove the A.I.R. when I change to headers since we have sniff test but they never pop the hood. I like SLP but they are quite expensive. I would end up with $1000 tied up in exhaust. That's a huge percentage of cars total value. I want as quiet as possible but flow as much as possible. I also like the stock looking exhaust tailpipes. I don't want both tailpipes on the same side like some rice burner and I don't want 2 big 3" chrome tailpipes that show up 2 miles away like some ******* pickup truck either. What do I use?

For quiet and high-flow use a dynomax cat-back. Dynomax is about if not more quiet than stock, and flows much better than stock, flowmaster, borla, etc.. Edelbrock headers are supposed to be easiest to install, and are emissions legal. If I were you, in the interest of money, I would either buy Flowtech or Hooker headers.

I have dynomax 3' catback. It come with the "stock style" 2.5' turndown tailpipes. Looks like the original muffler but with more flow and sound louder as the stock crappy muffler.

I don't know about in Trinity, but here in Durham they do a visual inspection, so be careful if you take those AIR tubes off!! Most of the time though, if you make it look like factory, they won't know the difference. Just use caution when getting rid of emissions stuff unless you know someone who can get you inspected...

My Dad's truck passed without a smog pump, but he had everything else there, so I guess they assumed that the smog pump was an optional item on his truck (82 F-150). So, you can get by with a lotta of fudging with emissions stuff...
