Borla owners... Help Please!!!
Borla owners... Help Please!!!
Hello all,
I just installed Borla's 14888 cat-back and I'm not happy with the way the right exhaust tips look. I can't get them as high as the left side and they angle to the right just a bit. The angle I think I can correct, but the muffler is hitting the heat shild, not sure how to get it any higher. Anyone else run into this problem?
Thanks,
Ken

yep, I just installed mine also and it didn't fit so I called up borla because the the passanger side was f'ed up and they sent out a whole new passanger section (y pipe middle pipe and tip) and I compared them to the exsiting one and they looked identical
. The only advice he could give me was start from the back (I did that) and don't tighten everything untill you get it set. (kinda did that too). I haven't tried to but the second set on yet. I'm just running the drivers side with the plate blocking off the pass. side w/o the tip. Anyway call up borla and bitch at them and hopefully sooner or later they will get the point and fix their product. Good Luck (not sarcasticly)

Start from the back?!? Whats he smokin'
It's easiest to start from the front and work you way back just snugging the connections until you have it adjusted right.
I never saw anyone start from the back.
Was their pipe bent correctly? If you can't raise one side can you lower the other? If it's a bolt on to the cat, maybe the other side (slip fit) can be spun to level out the muffler.

that is good advice for the borla kit. so what are you smokin. have you ever put one on????? I have one and way the kit fits if you install the tips last it is hard to get them even. they will never end up prefectly even though. so don't kill yourself trying.

He told me this so that the tips were strait. One other thing I discovered was that it helped to start from the back in order to find out where to cut the mid pipe to attach the addapter. Other than the passanger side pipes not fitting properly it went pretty smooth doing it the way he described

You have to cut pipes in the borla kit? Doesn't sound like much of a kit then. From what I hear borla is supposed to be the best. No I never put one on, I put cheaper systems on (slp, dynomax, edelbrock) and started from the front, never cut anything and they fit perfect and were level every time.

f uck borla!!! I have them and I lost my reciept,I'm stuck with the system, the tips look like shi t , their customer service sucks!! and no,the 14888 does not "bolt on" like it says it does, you need headers and cat to do it right,I first had it welded on with no cat,but the guy who did it was retarded so I had to carve the welds away and put it back together with the clamps. now I have to find someone that can do the job right (in Norfolk,VA) I blew away a cop with the plate open though, high end torque is rediculous!! it would be the best if borla knew how to properly manufacture their product.

Hi, on that borla system I had the same problem and they also sent me another system and finally, I talk to one of the customer service reps and I beleive his name was steve at ext. 205 and he suggested taking it to a muffler shop and they would pay to fix the problem at the right rear tail pipe and it only cost me $40. this was about a year ago and which borla paid. took 6-8 wks to get the check. The muffler shop guy told me that borla doesn't want to admit it but when they produced this batch of muffler tail pipe end section they mess up on there angle numbers for that section. he said there was no way that it would line up and I'm not a mechanic but I tried myself turn it different angle and there was no way it was going on so you have to have it cut and reweld at that section and it will comeout fine. I like the system but I don't use the right side since that side doesn't have a muffler for me its loud when you use the right side. anyway goodluck.
2nd Update:
Just received my new section from Borla. Can't see any major difference between new and old. Guess I'll have to install it and see if it's any better. I'll let you know!
