dual cat question (not 3rd gen specific)

This question is for my 87 TBI truck, but could apply to any 3rd gen wanting to run true duals... The truck is the 305 "H" code engine (the equivalent to the LO3 but with non-roller cam) . The question I have is I want to run some ceramic coated long tubes, but it being an 87 I have emissions for the next 9 years. I will have to run a cat/s. The plan is to buy 2 of the Catco 2.5"x14" cats. Do you guys think the Cats will get "hot" enough to work properly? Do you think going from 1 16 yr old cat to the 2 brand new cats will possibly lower my emissions? I passed last month so I have almost a whole year to get this done...

It will work. The ceramic coating will help to retain heat in the exhaust gases. The dual cats should help lower emissions (I put a new cat on my '84 full-sized van after 4 years/three tests of struggling to get it past the sniffer - levels dropped like a rock. But, the original cat turned out to be practically empty).

Technically, the cat(s) has(ve) to be of the factory type and in the factory location. Most places don't get too **** about that, especially on trucks - just verify the presence of the cat(s) and something close to the factory location. If your area doesn't have a rigorous visual inspection, you should be okay.

thanks five7, I do have a visual, but they just want to see a cat, I don't think I'll get in trouble for having an extra one. As far as the heat goes, I'm guessing I should probably put both cats as close to the collector as possible, to ensure the hottest exhaust?
