Flowmaster Cat-Back won't attach to my high-flow cat

I was trying to install my 3" Flowmaster American Thunder cat-back system today. I have the Catco 3" slip-fit cat, and the beginning of the I-pipe on the cat back has the "ball" type connection to bolt up to a stock cat. Am I gonna have to cut the end of the pipe and weld in a pipe? It looks like I may have to anyways because it appears as if the Catco cat is much shorter than the stock cat, so it wouldn't bolt up anyways. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.
