no smog pump in ohio?

A buddy of mine plans on putting headers on his 350 tpi that we are building, but he dosn't really want to spend the money for the headers with the smog pump fittings, is there any alternative, can you put the smog fittings on regular headers, or can you eliminate the smog pump all togather and get away with emissions, also, will removing the smog pump effect the computer? i don't think ohio has really strict laws when it comes to emissions, but i'm not sure.

Don't you have to submit to emissions testing in your area? I have a relative who lives in the area and was under that impression. If you want to know specifics, you could go to the Ohio EPA website and it will spell it out for you.
If you want to put the smog fittings on non-smog headers, that has been done, but I don't think it's smog-legal. I've considered doing just that, but it seems to cost about the same as emissions legal headers.
If you want to remove the AIR pump, that's been done before and I don't know of any big problems with it, IF you don't need to pass a visual inspection.
I don't mean to come across as a know it all, these are things that I have run across on this site and other places and are true to my knowledge. Make of it what you will...
