High Heat Paint on Headers Worth it or not?

High Heat Paint on Headers Worth it or not?

I am going to have my headers off tomorrow.

1. Should I paint them with High Temp paint to reduce underhood temp or is it a waste of time?

What do you guys think?

Hey Daniel,

There was someone on here who used some Por-12 high temp silver coating on their SLP headers and they said it worked great. I know people who have used regular high temp engine paint on headers and it still chips off for some reason but the Por-12 is thicker and is supposed to be able to withstand very extreme heat and looks great to boot. Por products has a web site with all their stuff on it. Just go to any search engine and you should be able to find it.

Poor college student(donations welcome ;0) with an all stock 1988 5.7L IROC-Z Hardtop, Auto. trans, white ext. w/gold accents (soon to be silver), black custom cloth interior, 4-wheel discs and G92 pkg. Car is dead stock. Has only standard Z28 power options and all the IROC performance stuff you could get. No pwr. seats, mirrors, or rear defrost.

Best run: 1/4 14.90 @ 92.7 MPH

I used a can of 1500 degree high temp aluminum paint from the auto parts store on my SLP 1 3/4" headers. It flaked off in certain spots but is fine in others. I plan on taking them off again eventually and getting them coated, just because it looks nasty with the flaking.

Man, I just got my SLP 1 3/4 headers back from HPC (high performance coatings) in oklahoma city and they look sweet! Well worth the money. They coated them inside and out and you will never have to worry about it EVER coming off. By the way, retail price on this service is $185 on these headers inside and out.

I was talking with a guy that use to work in a place similar to Jet Hot and he said its not worth doing coatings yourself.

I put POR 20 on mine, and it flaked right off after about two days. Maybe i put it on wrong or something, but if not, that was a waste of 22 bucks,
