its a 92 camaro RS, 305TBI. i put edelbrock headers on it, with there y pipe, 3inch all the way back, no cat, and a 40 series muffler. the thing sounds great, but it doesnt run any faster, and maybe slower. i know i am gonna loose some bottom end, but theres no top end improvment at all. any ideas? i thought i heard someone say that the O2 sensor doesnt get hot or something with that kind of exhaust on it and wont work right, is that a possibilty, and if so, whats it all about and how do i fix it?

You will need to get a heated(three-wire) O2 sensor.
The ceramic element in the O2 needs to reach 300° F to 'sense' oxygen and send the ECM into 'closed-loop'. The thin walls(as compared to cast-iron manifolds) of headers conduct too much heat away, before it reaches the O2 sensor.

how can i tell if this is the problem or not, is this a common problem? thanks

If your car goes into closed loop after warming up for a few minutes than the O2 sensor is fine. I have SLP headers and catback with a new bosch stock type O2 and no problems it actually reaches closed loop sooner than it used to.

did you try advancing the timing?
