is there something i can wrap around the pipe that will withstand the heat and deaden the rattling noise.

Are you referring to your catalytic converter rattling because it is broken inside? If so, the only way to fix that is to either gut the cat or by a new cat. I replaced my cat with a straight pipe, and the car sounds awesome.
