What smog legal headers are available

I won't ask
"Which header is best?" or
"What is the best cat back system?" or
any other number of dumb questions but i will ask.

What smog legal headers are available?

I know SLP makes them ...
Edelbrock makes them ..
But who else makes smog legal headers that will either bolt up to a stock Y pipe OR better yet have a high flow Y pipe available also.

I noticed that Summit sells some smog legal headers designed for Chev/GMC trucks with AIR. they are reasonable at $159 but will they work in a third gen?

So far i have definitely decided on Walker Dynomax for that quiet exhaust note that will keep the wife pleased. I have a 305 TBI that is mildly hotted up. I want a 3" system from the new 3"outlet (slip fit i believe) converter I will buy to a muffler with 3" in and 2-2.5" out.

Does Dynomax make a preconfigured cat back exhaust in that configuration?

Basically I want to get a SMOG LEGAL good flowing low cost head to tip exhaust setup for under or around $500 that will last a few years.

Please give me some input because i have not made a 3rdGen Camaro exhaust before so i have no experience to fall back on except here on the net. I am absolutely giving up my entire stock exhaust.

If I could find someone with a set of L69 stock exhaust manifolds with the AIR tubes still on them that I could pick up on the cheap...mailed to NC I might even consider trying that first.

I believe Summits 3rd gen headers are made by Flowtech. Not positive though, could be the Heddman shorties. They aren't smog legal though because they have no AIR fittings.

No-one makes headers to bolt up to the OEM y-pipe. Doesn't really matter since all the makers of OE headers supply the coressponding y-pipe. Smog legal headers are made by:
  • SLP 1-5/8", 1-3/4"
  • Hooker 1-5/8"
  • Heddman 1-5/8"
  • DynoMax 1-5/8"
  • Edelbrock 1-5/8" (no more 1.5" and 1.63" BS )
  • PaceSetter (not truely sure) 1-1/2"

I highly recommend (since you are considering DynoMax's exhaust) that you also get their headers. Yes, their cat-back is 3" I-pipe with 3" in/ dual 2.5" out muffler.

I would recommend SLP with a jet coat if you have the cash but I didn't so I got the Edelbrock TES Headers w/o coating and they added some power.

Dynomax doesn't have the 3" catback anymore for us. its a 2.5" with a 3" flange. That's what really gets people. The dynomax headers also have a small Y pipe. Dual 2.25" to single 2.5" You can put together a 3" system though if you have the part numbers. I have the I pipe numbers in my sig. the rest are easy to find. Trying to figure out the difference between my intermadiate pipe and that 2.5" one from their catback was a pain in the butt. I really don't like that its has a flat spot on the over axle part. I wouldn't get it again.
