I want to clear out my engine bay alittle, and was wondering if I can just take off the black box and the rubber hoses off the AIR system and just leave in the metal tubes that go into the manifolds, will it be safe to do that or will exahust find it's way out of those tubes? Part of the AIR system already ahh..... "fell" off, the part that goes to the cat.

 

I just did this recently. Exhaust won't find its way out. I ran the car with the check valves open and instead felt a vacuum there. But I capped the valves anyways. I didn't want to take the tubes out of the manifolds cuz I will be installing headers, hopefully very soon.

 

What did you use to cap the valves?

 

1/2 inch PVC caps. Came out like a buck for 3 of 'em at Home Depot.
