i have an 89 iroc 305 that came from the factory with dual cats going into a single pipe. i plan on adding headers. should i keep the dual cats or opt for a single high flow cat thanks
If you can, I would do the best of both worlds, get 2 high flow cats. Catco converters work great and flow very well and are only about $100 each! If not, keep the dual cats and replace them with dual high flow ones later.

keeping both cats is a good idea. having 2 will keep emiisions down, and you will worry less about passing inspections. If you do put 2 high flow cats on, the exhaust flow would be a lot higher than with one high flow, although if you have a negative backpressure EGR, then that may cause that system not to work, because there won't be enough backpressure.
